Many tablet PCs to battle with the iPad

Apple said it has sold more than two million iPad tablet PCs as of May 31. This has prompted some industry analysts to predict that the Cupertino company will sell at least 10 million iPads before the year ends. Watching IT could find no strong reasons to disagree with these market observers.

Recent developments at the 2010 Computex trade show, however, has prompted this corner to reconsider. Several IT vendors have introduced Windows and Android-based tablet PCs that can compete strongly with the iPad and with each other for customer attention before 2010 ends.

Well, being first in the market will certainly help the iPad in warding off these late-comers. It does not hurt either that there are thousands of apps available for iPad owners, who are mostly ardent Apple fans.

Things in the tablet PC land are certain to get hotter as more slate computers are released into the market.
