Cherry Mobile's Eclipse smart phone

Local mobile phone company Cherry Mobile is raring to enter the smart phone market by launching its MS Windows Mobile-powered Cherry Mobile Eclipse.

Announced last Friday during a roundtable discussion with a group of Manila-based IT journalists, the Eclipse smart phone comes with a budget-friendly price (Php9,999). Powered by the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, the Eclipse smart phone continues Cherry Mobile's push for affordably priced feature-packed mobile phones.

The smart phone market remains one of the most profitable segments for mobile phone vendors. Unsurprisingly, an increasing number of handset manufacturers and other IT vendors are flexing their muscles, coming up with their own smart phones to do battle with market leaders Nokia, Research In Motion, and of course, Apple.

Cherry Mobile's Eclipse phone is expected to meet some heavy competition in the local market. Nokia, for example, announced on April 13 the C3 budget-friendly smart phone.
