IT vendors are finding ways to up the ante further. Some have forged partnerships with famous brands from other industries, such as the automobile and fashion segments. It has become commonplace too to see computers sporting brands of supercars; and mobile phones bandying about fashionable brands.
For consumers willing and able to pay extra dollars (or pesos, or stones), there is no shortage of Ferrari phones and laptops, or Prada mobile phones.
The Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 netbook from Asus |
Asus-Lamborghini
Powered by a dual-core Atom D525 processor from Intel, the VX6 also lugs an NVIDIA Ion graphics card, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. It also includes a pair of USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 connectivity options.
Running on Microsoft’s Windows 7, the netbook also has the Express Gate Cloud, which makes it a dual-operating-system computer. Equipped with a 12.1-inch LED backlit WXGA high-definition (1,366 x 768-pixel) screen, the netbook comes in versions with 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB of DDR3 SO-DIMM memories.
Is the VX6 worthy of its supercar heritage? |
The 1.5-kilogram, 297 x 204 x 28.67mm VX6 comes with a VGA, HDMI, LAN RJ-45, and two audio jacks, as well as an MMC/SD/SDXC card reader.
Design
Inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 supercar, the VX6 projects luxury and performance with its own design and styling. It makes the other netbooks look like uncultured and clueless barbarians. This supermodel, I mean supercar, masquerading as a netbook comes with ergonomics that are way ahead of its class.
The VX6 comes with a specially designed mouse. |
